ELA Assessments

Man, I just realized it's been while since I've posted. We have actually been out of school since last week. I found out I have to move classrooms which stinks! I LOVE the room I'm in now. Let me tell ya my room has it goin' on. It is HUGE, has 2 bathrooms, a sink, a wall full of windows looking into a field, and a super large closet with tons of shelves. I'm being moved to a room half the size, no bathrooms, no sink, no storage, no windows (besides a square in the window that looks out to the portables). Needless to say I have been super upset and super busy moving all of my stuff and not to mention I had my huge room's walls covered from floor to ceiling with bulletin boards, posters, a tissue paper tree for my reading center and so much more that I had to tear down. The reason behind all of this is that the school wants all grade levels on the same hallway, which makes sense, but geez louise why do I have to be the one to move?!?! I do have an interview at a school closer to home tomorrow so say a little prayer for me for that.

Now to get to the reason for this post. I just finished creating my 2nd Grade ELA Common Core Assessments pack for TPT.

I used this for my students this past year and loved it. I have a notebook where I keep everything organized to monitor the student's mastery of common core skills. There are tracking sheets for each individual student that I keep separated by tabs in the notebook and a tracking sheet where you can keep up with all of the class on one page.

I also included common core full size color posters and a smaller version of "I Can" posters for students.

There is a version of the full size poster without the picture or color to use as dividers in your notebook. I have this in my notebook with the assessment that goes with it right behind for easy access.

This was such a life saver for me this past year. It totally helped keep me organized and I knew which students needed more practice and which needed it completely retaught. It really helped for grouping students too. Hope you have a great start to your summer vacation. Try not to think of school too much! Ha! Who are we kidding?!?! We're teachers, it's ALL we think of!

Narrative Writing Craftivity

I'm sure we all are feeling it. The "it's the end of the year-let's make it fun" feeling. I know I sure am. We were working on some narrative writing this week and I decided to create a little craftivity to go along with my kiddos writing.

They LOVE it when we do neat little crafts and I LOVE to hear them say "Mrs. Perkins thank you for letting us do fun stuff." I don't let them in on the the little secret that while it is fun to them, they are learning. Shhhh don't tell. Anyway. Here are some pictures of our display board and some of the ones I thought turned out super adorable. Check out the bunny slippers. My favorite part.

This is up for sale in my TPT shop. It contains the templates for the craft with 2 versions of the boy and girl face, a prewriting page to generate ideas, details, and a closing sentence, and two versions of writing paper. BUUUUUTTTTT sometimes I just like to give freebies to my followers so if you took the time to read my post, please comment below with your email address and I will send this to you for FREE! Thanks for being a follower. Have a happy weekend!!

Multiplication Freebie and Teacher Appreciation Sale

Last week I wrote a post about what we had been up to with multiplication in my room. I have since made a little freebie for you with some multiplication games. I can't take credit for the ideas. I had seen them somewhere before but can't remember where so I decided to try to whip up some myself that were similar to what I had seen. The mini packet contains 3 games {Racing Multiplication, Multiplication Tic Tac Toe, and Dog Bone Multiplication}. Click on the picture to get them for free.

In other news I'm sure everyone has heard that TPT is having a teacher appreciation sale May 7th through May 8th and Teachers Notebook is having their sale from May 4th through May 10th. Both of my shops {TPT and TN} will be 20% off. At TPT you can use the code TAD13 to get another 10% off. At TN you will also receive another 10% off. Click on either of the banners below to go my stores. Happy Shopping!

Teachers Notebook Event

Has anyone else read about the Teachers Notebook May Teaching Tips Event? It is something new they are doing (I think. I have never heard anything about it before now) and it officially launches today through May 17th. You can purchase a ticket for only $10.00 and with it you get over $100 of resources from 8 top teachers. You get video tips for Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and Memorial Day. You also get the products that go along with each teacher's video. You can click on the picture below to see more about each presenter and what is included with your $10.00. This may be something I have to try out myself. I could have my month of May covered in my classroom. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Time for Multiplication

We recently ended our unit on multiplication. I felt great after we tested because ALL of my students mastered the skill! YEAH!! I wanted to share with you a little of what we did. Some of it was from my little multiplication unit from my TPT shop and some activities are from the well known Amy Lemons. On the first day we learned the words we would need to know by reviewing these mini posters.

Next, we made our marvelous multiplication bulletin board. The students got a mushroom template and added the groups to create a multiplication sentence.

The following day we went into the hallway and they had to answer each of their peers' multiplication sentence.

 We made multiplication hands.

One day we made multiplication fry boxes. We laid these out on our desks and rotated around to everyone's desk and wrote the answer to each multiplication sentence.

In our small group we played this array game. Students get to place birds on the grid and make an array that could be up to 5 X 5.

Next, they had to use number cards to create the multiplication and repeated addition sentence and include the answer at the bottom.

We did some more fun games and crafts for the remainder of the week and did I mention that all of my students mastered the skill. Just a little proud of my babies for that one!
